burning oil
burning oil
just a little question here
i got a 82 t/a with the stock 305 in her, right now i would like to throw a 350 in her, but am a little strapped for cash.. if i were to replace the pistion rings(cause i believe thats the most common place for an engine to burn oil) how much do you think this will roughly cost? do they have to yank the motor out to do this job?
thanks
Steve

yes you have to pull engine, strip it down to the block, hone (if your very luckey and its still in spec) otherwise you need its bored also and new pistons pressed on, basically dont waste you money, just save up and get the new engine and do it right.

The engine pretty much has to come out.
Does the engine smoke only on startup? If it does, you probably have oil leaking past the valves. rebuilding the heads will fix this problem and can be done w/o removing the engine. as for costs, I have no idea.

the egnine will only really puff some smoke out when i open it wide open or just about, it wont puff it out on startup(just shoots out that greyish white exhaust) which i think is normal, and normal driving i think it is fine to, maybe a tinny bit of light blue smoke when i accelerate from a dead stop..
