LG4 wiring question
LG4 wiring question
Alrighty!!! I started plugginf the harness into the engine bay last night and was wondering something. The plugs that hang out the bottom of the dash into the passenger side foot well that plug into the main harness, are those the wires that run the dash? OR... There is a seperate small harness that has wires running through the firewall into the cabin, are those the speedo and such wires?

If I understand your question correctly, your first answer is correct.
There are some wires for lights and cruise going through the firewall on the driver's side, but the instrument wires (I'm pretty sure) are part of the harness on the passenger side.

on an LG4 All the wiring to the gauges comes through the firewall in front of the fuse box. Most of them are the same.
If the ones that plug into the ECM you are speaking of,they go to the Lamp driver, fuse block and ALDL, and the VSS signal from the back of the speedo.
anything past the consol to the pass door is either speakerwire or ECM.
If you disconnect the ECM, pull the kickpanel off the interior and feed the harness out into the fender, you can probably pull it right through. that's all the ECM wiring to the engine compartment, save one pink black powerwire for the ECM that comes across the engine compartment by the brake booster.

I cut the wires and plugs off the V6 harness to splice into the V8 one where the previous owner had chopped the plugs off. I guess I need to hook the wires together and plug it into the plugs that come from behind the dash and hang into the footwell.

I just pulled the engine out this past weekend. Everything that went to the engine - oil, temp, tach, ignition power, CC carb connectors, CTS, TCC lockup, starter, etc., went with the engine harness that goes to the passenger side fender through the ECM connector.

I wired the plugs from my V6 harness to the V8 harness the other night so that I had the plugs going from the main harness to the plugs that come out from behind the dash and connect to the main harness at the ECU. The deal is though, I could only mathc up about 5 of the wires, and there were probably 6-7 more that didnt match anything on the V8 main harness where the previous owner had chopped them off for some reason. I connected a black/white tan/white pink/black orange brown. i think thats about it. But there were more wires that didnt match up. I looked in my Chiltons and couldnt find what the 3 plugs coming from behind the dash into the footwell where for. Oh well, Im sure it will still run, I may have to rig up soome gauge connections if thats what the plugs are for.
