383 into a 92 Camaro
383 into a 92 Camaro
I got the 383 in and all hooked up, but it won't start now. It was running last night on a stand, but I seem to have a slight problem now. I have the pink wire from the old coil plugged into the battery terminal on my HEI distributor and there is power to it. I have fuel also. Is there some switch that shuts down power to the ignition? Also which fuse disables the electric fuel pump. I am now carbed so I don't need it. I realize this is probably a simple problem, but I am so excited about running it that I can't think straight. Please help if you can. Thanks!!
I had a similar problem
The problem is now that u are running a caurbeurator, your fuel pump does not know that your engine is running, becuz u have disconnected all your sensors.
You will need to rig up an on/off switch for your fuel pump. It is 3 wires, it is pretty easy to do. Or you can wire it to your ignition.

I may have misred your question...but your electric pump still will not run unless you rig a switch.
However, your electric pump does run for 3 seconds when u first turn the key forward, to prime the injectors, but since there are no injectors, it is filling your carb. floats, which is proly why u think you have fuel.
Also, I take it you are running a mechanical pump? If so, the mechanical pump will not pull fuel through the electric in-tank pump, I know, I have tried it.
Your best bet is to block off the mech. pump, run your in tank pump, and hook that up to a pressure regulator.
Besides, turning the mech. pump takes horsepower.

I have my mechanical pump hooked up to the return line and have no probs at all. And when I put the 350 in, the electric fuel pump never came on again. I didn't even have to mess with that at all.

If you use the stock electric pump, I hope you put a pressure regulator in, carbs don't use high pressure like a FI system does.
Obviously you're using a mechanical pump, take the electric pump out and put a pickup tube in, and everything will work just fine.
right??
