NEED alt. and P/S brackets for fuelie heads.

I need alternator and power steering brackets that do not bolt to the heads. My heads do not have accessory bolt holes, so I need it to mount elsewhere. I know there is a low mount alt. bracket available, but that locates it right where my power steering pump is.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I am trying to get it fixed by Monday as I need to drive the car. I am currently making my own but I would LOVE to be able to just buy some.

Thanks.

I've been looking for the same thing, but I only need an alternator bracket. I can only find brackets that will work with short water pumps.

If you're willing to lose the power steering and buy a short water pump:

A manual steering box from an S truck is a direct swap with your steering box.

I sent summitracing.com an email last night, asking if there are any brackets available that will work with my long water pump and no accessory bolt holes in the heads. I haven't got a reply yet.

Do you have a short or long water pump?

I didn't pay much attention, but I am guessing it's the long pump. What exactly would I look for if I were to swap the manual box in? What year/model? Sorry, new to these things. Been into 4x4's ... For your application, I believe I saw an alternator bracket that will work with a long pump on Bill's hot rod companies website. It may have been somewhere else, but I definitely came across one.

How is the steering with those manual boxes?

The steering is definitely more difficult with manual steering, and a little annoying when you have to turn sharp, (20:1 ratio, most third gens have about 12:1 ratio) but overall it isn't very bad.

You need to re-use your stock pitman arm though. Or (I don't know if anyone has tried this before) try and use the S-truck idler arm, and keep the pitman arm already on the S-truck box, which is shorter, and would really help to reduce steering effort.

You can get a manual steering box from a 4 cylinder S10 or S15, '82-'93. Not all of them will have manual steering, but most do. Make sure you get a steering box with the 4-bolt top cover. I've heard some might have a 3-bolt top cover.

If you have the stock water pump, it's a long pump. The only car to use a short pump after the '60's were C3's.

If you get manual steering and a short pump (a short pump might cost about $30) you can use the bracket I posted a link to, and you can probably still use your stock alternator.

They make a low mount alternator bracket for ~$20 if you have a short pump.

Thanks for the info!

I just called summitracing and they said this should work: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRD-9317/?rtype=10

It doesn't look like it will to me...

It looks just like the stock alternator mount bracket.

Re: NEED alt. and P/S brackets for fuelie heads.

I don't think bills hot rod company has anything that will work with no accessory bolt holes in the heads and a long water pump.
The only one I saw that would even work with heads with no accessory bolt holes, was only for a short water pump, and looked like it would have hood clearance issues in a third gen.
Am I missing something?
