7QT OIL PAN
HIGH FLOW OIL PUMP
CRANK WAS TURNED
BORED .30 OVER
FLAT TOP PISTONS
COMP CAM 268
STOCK 993 CASTING HEADS
EDLEBROCK PERFORMER 2101 INTAKE
HOLLY 600 DP
HEADMAN HEADERS
HEI 65000 VT DIST.
8.8 WIRES
ACCEL PLUGS
MSD 6AL
FLEX A LITE DUAL COOLING FANS
DBL ROLLER TIMING SET
OK NOW THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT SHOULD BE MAKING AROUND 310 OR SO HP AND ABOUT 370 TQ. THERE IS NOW WAY THAT IT IS MAKING IT THOUGH. ME AND MY BUDDY RACED IT AND MY MOMS GRAND AM AND IT LOST!!! LOL BUT ANYWAYS THE CAR (85 TA) SEEMS TO LOOSE ALL POWER WHEN IT HITS SECOND GEAR. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE TIMING IS OFF SO I AM GOIN TO ADJUST IT BUT I REALLY DONT KNOW HOW IT SHOULD BE SET, ANY IDEAS? BUT MOST OF ALL IM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY THIS CAR HAS NOT GOT THE POWER THAT IT SHOULD HAVE. ANY IDEAS ON WHAT IS GOING ON?

Also if this was just installed you might want to check the little things. Things like make sure all vacuum lines are connected and none leaking. check firing order to make sure its right, also check to make sure the butterflies in the carb are opening all the way when the pedal is to the floor.

To set the timing:
Disconnect and plug the vacuum advance.
Loosen the distributor clamp so you can just turn the distributor by hand.
With the engine idling, move the distributor until you have 12 degrees before top dead center.
Tighten the distributor clamp and verify the timing didn't change.
Reattach the vacuum advance.

Its actually very easyI also have the Comp 268 its a good cam for street. Anyway 12-15 advanced is what I run it at and its got plenty of power.
I did have a problem with it loosing ALOT of power due to the cam gear jumping a tooth on the chain (thats what i get for not putting a new chain in when i put the cam in
) that caused the timing to retard quite a bit so i put a new double roller set in and set it at 12-15 advanced and it ran like a champ.I'm sure the timing is your issue.

Re: 355= NO POWER...WHAT IS GOING ON?
it amazes me that this kid seems as if he needs help with timing and everyones going use a timing light look lets start with the basics ok it is obvious you havae a timing woe here is what you do 1. pull no 1 plug out that will be on the driver side frt 3. remove dist cap and pay attention to the angle of the rotor button it needs to be pointing directy to that cylinder if it is not loosen the hold down clamp and reset it 2. rotate engine until piston is at tdc = top dead center ,if you dont have a piston stop then use a screwdriver pay attention to the reference mark on your balancer it should be on the money 4. when you set dist down wire it up clockwise 18436572 then adjust from there see how this does and i will check back later there are some wonderful websites that can explain how to use a timing light if you are not familiar...............birdman
