2 or more guys here have done it. You might want to look into a 400 smallblock.

It's not too bad. The worst part is header clearance. The T400 fits fine but will need the adapter kit. If you run a trans shield on the 400, then it takes some work to get it to fit.

All the info is on my page.

Currently installing 3.73's into my 9 bolt (YES, it is a 9 bolt & YES they are 3.73's, not 3.70. I currently have 4.10 gear sets and new series 3 posi carriers for sale for 9 bolts )

Fairly easy swap

not a big job, just bear in mind that it is not a bolt in. spend some $$ and buy good headers. cheap hooker headers make the swap a major job.

I just put my TH400 into the car last week. My TCI shield fit with no problems. It's possible that I have the rear of the tranny sitting a little lower allowing move access above the tranny.

I'd really like to know how everyone else uses the tranny crossmember for a TH400. The tranny mounting pad sits back so far I have no idea how to use a factory style mount. I even looked at the 82-83 200C mount.

Since I have custom made sub frame connectors, I just fabricated my own tranny crossmember and bolted it to the SFC's

Kind of and kind of not.

The engine and everything drops right in without a hitch. The two problems you run into are:

(1) Changing V6 specific items to V8
(2) Exhaust

Changing over a V6 has been done time and time again. There are plenty of people on this board capable of providing solutions for that.

Running exhaust with a big block is a real pain and it all comes down to where and how the headers are plumbed. You have 3 choices. First is to use stock big block exhaust manifolds. Easy solution but hurts flow if you want big power. Second is to use engine swap headers but they are not condusive to running street exhaust. Third is to have headers fabbed. I chose to have Tri-Y headers fabbed.

There's some ideas on my webpage. Not much technical info but it does give you a concept of what needs to be done to your car to handle big block power.
