302 roller motor?

You know, reading through the posts on this board, I've seen quite a few people curious about how to do this but no one putting it into practice.

First of all, I guess the key thing would be, how would one do this? I know the 327 with a 283 crank equals the 302 cubes.. but what would you use with a late model (pre lt1) 350.. around a 90's 1-piece rear seal block?

Secondly, where could you pick up the crank needed for the de-stroke conversion? and what other parts would be needed for it?

Thanks..

find a caprice with single exhaust that mini lt1 has a 3.00 in. stroke.now two ways to complete it either use the 5.94 in. connecting rods from the 4.3 v/8(so you can use gm replacement pistons)or go wth 6.00 in. rods and get the pistons somewhere else.that's all you'll need.oh i forgot to add the block get an 86 and later 1 piece seal l98 block to round out the shortblock.

Thanks for the info.

Would a 350tbi motor (from a truck) work with the conversion? or would It be better going and snagging a l98 block from a junkyard or?

Aside from junkyard, could I like order the crank through summit or something? what year caprice would it be from?

Thanks again.

why would you want to make a 302 for? you would have to drive around with 4.88 gears and a 4,000 stall to get it in its power band.

Seriously though. I would like to just build a 302. I'm not looking for this vehicle to be my daily driver (as I will be getting another ride soon and need an excuse to keep this car) and well, I wanted to build something different.

Anyway, Pete if you could help me out with more info, that would be great. I appreciate it.

old school way: 327 small jouranal block, 283 small journal crank.
New way: 1 piece rear main seal block, crank from a L99. Its a 4.3L v8 put in Caprice and other B bodys. Its looks just like an LT1. It has longer rods 5.95" I think that if you match with LT4 pistons comes out good. You need to use a solid lifter cam because a hydrolic roller cam doesn't like going over 6500 RPM. the old 327s could go 8000, the old 302s could go 9000 and the old 283s could get up to 10,000. Thats why NHRA made scatter shields mandtory. You don't want an exploded clutch taking off your foot. email me if you want me to dig up the old mags on the 302 LT4 GM showcased.
