Ignition timing suggestions?
Hey guys, I'm finally getting the engine work closer to being done but I need some suggestions.
What should I run for my base ignition timing? Right now i'm at about 16*
I have the MSD Street Fire HEI dsitro, what should I set the vacuum advance at for total degrees added.
What centrifugal springs should I use?
I only have a stock 350 that has been bored over to 355, with the edelbrock performer, holley 670 street avenger, and hedmann headers with almost no piper after.
I just need help to get into the ballpark for decent power and reliability levels, once I can get the exhuast finished i'll start playing with it more to tune it better.

Typical for a basically stock SBC is around 12 initial at idle (set w/o vacuum advance connected), and 36 total mechanical (w/o vacuum advance connected). Use the full-time vacuum port for the vacuum advance. This will make it easy to start, idle well, and give the best power and economy. If you have problems with pinging under light load, get an adjustable vacuum advance and back it off that way.

Re: Ignition timing suggestions?
The vacuum advance on the Street Fire 8362 distributor is adjustable and I have the chart for it. I am not sure what the weight of the springs already in the distributor so I'm not sure what I'm getting with full advance.
So am I looking for 36* total advance...including the vacuum advance?
Right now I have my adj vac advance hooked up to the timed vac port on the holley primary metering block. Do I really need to move it down to the full vac line next the PVC line under the fuel bowl?
