Can anyone give me a price range on an engine and transmission swap and what else might need changed, i.e. motor mounts, fuel lines, wiring, etc? I have been searching for an '85 Iroc because of sentimental value; first car ever was a black '85 iroc z28, auto with a 5.0 TPI engine. I would really like a 5.0 TPI or 5.7 TPI/Carb combined with a 5-speed transmission. The few cars I have found with those specs are well over $5000 or in such bad shape that I don't want to bother. I want a car with some get-up, not a v6 camaro, so I am thinking of finding a decent camaro in the $1200-$2500 range and depending on what they come with, swap the necessary parts. I'm sure the cost would depend on the price of a used motor/transmission but was hoping for some advice/suggestions from people who have already done such swaps.

Are you going to do the work yourself? New/rebuilt or used engine?

 

it would definitely be a used engine/transmission and would most likely be a garage doing the swap unless I can get help from family.
