Re: 305 TPI TO 350 CARB
well.. i had a 305 tpi in mine.. the people before me turned it into carb.. then i yanked it to put in a 350 carb.. and im not running any sort of electronics except battery, dizzy, ignition box, and gauges.. and i havent had any problems.. as long as you dont mix up wires.. i dont see why not running one would be a problem

I'm no pro, but in the work I've done your not using the computer for any of your the main workings of you engine, so basic wiring will suffice. Alot of people say going from EFI to carbed is taking a step back, but for people with less tech experience the EFI to Carb is easier than the other way around, with wiring harness, and prom settings and such. Plus you can get some serious power from a carbed engine. I'm going from 305 carbed to 350 carbed myself

Another thing to consider and you can look around at other posts on here. Alot of times your TPI setup for your 305 will work for the 350 as well. Take a look. Five7Kid is a great resource for this specific thing. Depends on what you want from you motor
again it's back and forth on the thinking, so check out your options if you use your 305 TPI, as seen in alot of posts, you will need a 350 knock sensor and some gasket changes, so it may not need much more than that just to get it running.
if you know carbs though it's not a bad decision either way

I actually like the carb thing..more power and not as much wires..i got to know tpi really good when i got my iroc..but when i pulled the motor and saw the wiring harness whoever had it before me really cut it up and i was like wow ill never be able to trace this thing...also i dunno if u know how would i make a 2 piece rear main seal fit a 700?

I've yanked my ECM out, I don't use any of it's function with a carb.
BUT - I installed an aftermarket TC Lockup for my torque converter.
It might be possible to utilize your ECM to lock up the TC, but I'm not sure. I know when the car is stock, you can connect two of the ALDL wires together with a switch to lock the TC manually - so you might could do this after a carb swap as well. There's a TCC Lockup sticky at the top of the carb forum.
Either way, you'll need a methos of locking the TC - it lowers the RPM's on the highway giving better gas mileage, and it keeps the tranny cooler. It needs to lock up in 4th gear. I manually lock mine with a switch - but using an aftermarket kit that I installed in the tranny - I usually only lock it when I get to 50mph and no stops coming up soon (like on the highway). I don't lock it in town, even when I'm running in a 45mph zone - too much of a PITA between redlights.

Re: 305 TPI TO 350 CARB
Well after looking at the back of my motor and the back of mine they look identical which leads me to believe this is a 1 piece rear main seal..cause it just has one whole in the back of the flexplate ill just put my flexplate and torque converter to this motor then.
