more than likely a common question
i bought an 85 camaro, and was wondering.
It has the 305 crossfire injection.. and frankly.. it doesnt have enough power for me. so i was wondering what would be a good swap to give me more power and still be able to drive it regularly...
i was wondering whether it was possible and what it would take to put an ls1 into it without having to chop a whole bunch of stuff. any suggestions are welcome and appreciated. thanks for taking the time.

An LSx swap takes some effort and a lot of new parts, but its been done many many times on here. If you want to keep the 305 but ditch the Crossfire, you can easily convert it to carb. Youd need a new intake, carb of course, and an HEI distributor. Or find a CC carb setup. You could also find a TBI or TPI setup and use that if you wanted to keep fuel injection. Either way you go, your stock computer will either have to be tossed or replaced with the CC carb/TBI/TPI computer and wiring harness.
If you do ditch the crossfire though, Im sure there is someone here who would be more than happy to take the full setup off your hands.

yeah, the crossfire is just a mess. but i figured for 1200 the car was worth it. i did want to keep it all original but i dont think its worth it.

Up to 4500 rpm, a TPI 350 will feel like half again the engine the cease fire 305 is. with smart mods, you can get a TPI 350 over 400 hp, and close to 500 ft-lbs, but it's still a 5000 rpm engine.
There are other intake manifolds for an EFI 350 if you want 500 horses and 6500 rpm, but that really is LS1 territory. It'll do those things cheaper.

I think he was just referring to what parts would need to be replaced for the ls1, since a lot of things cant be reused from his current engine.
