Need help with wiring! HELP!!!
Howdy Folks, Well I'm almost done with my BBC swap (been saying that for a while now) and I need a little help wiring this sucker up.
I read and followed POCKET'S excellent thread on preparing the engine harness and completed most of that but I still need a little help (Being a First Time Builder). I have most of the essentials wired but I would still like to cut down on some of the unnecessary wires if possible. I am looking to go "Bare Bones" as pocket puts it. I'll start with a little info. I have a 1983 Trans Am. It was originally a 305 TBI but I pulled that and put in my 454. Its is a pretty simple set-up. Carbed, No A/C. Just ALT,PS,Elect. FP, and Elect. Fan. I have pulled the big MESS harness from the passenger side /ECM. I am left with the C100 harness which I am told will run everything I need. I have my power wires going to starter and ALT. Battery cables hooked up. Here's where the questions start. Which wires go to the distributor and which goes to the temp sensor. I have the oil pressure wires but it seems as if I have a couple extra wires. Also , Is there a harness that goes down to the 700R4. Last question, Hoping that someone has a good wiring suggestion, where is a good place to run my ignition wires to for my FP and FAN. Thanks guys. Thanks to this site, I have built something that I never thought possible but that I have always wanted to do. KUDOS ThirdGen.org!!!

Re: Need help with wiring! HELP!!!
Don't know if this helps, I'm no expert, and your 1983 had different wiring than my 1992 does...
Fan - I run a seperate controller for my fan - it's a Flex-a-lite unit I got from Summit (~$80). It's easy to wire, fully adjustable, will run single or dual fans, and has provision for a manual on switch. No more fan switch in the head to replace - this one probes the radiator. There are some more and some less - just depends on the bells and whistles.
Fuel Pump - my car had the fuel pump relay, as well as the oil pressure sending unit controlling the in-tank pump - I removed the relay, and rewired it with the oil pressure sending unit wires - so when key is on, relay activates, and runs power to the fuel pump through the oil pressure sending unit wires (where the OPSU would originally run the fuel pump in the event that the relay went bad).
Oil pressure wires - do you mean there are extra wires from that sender? In my 1992, that oil pressure sending unit had 4 wires to it, one was ground, one went to guage, other two were red and orange - those were the ones that ran the fuel pump from oil pressure as I described above - maybe that's the extras.
www.austinthirdgen.org - left side, click tech articles, then look for wiring diags and click that - they have the diags for almost every 3rd gen car - that might help you.
The harness going to the 700R4 - that's for torque converter lockup - there are kits available to be able to lock the TC - most require removal of the tranny pan to install new solenoid - B^M make an elctronic kit that doesn't need pan removal - connects in with speedo and stock 700R4 wires and locks converter at a speed you set on a little box - look at summit for different torque converter lockup kits.
