my sofar cheap 383 build.. need some help.

ok so its been a while, just got a house and a shop, now that were kinda in its time to work on the third gen.

my block started as a 2.5 ton flat bed motor another 3970010 4bolt main 350. i was told it was a good motor with low miles my plan was just to put some 305 heads on it and run it. but i pulled the valve covers and it was clean almost like new, then i pulled the heads the passenger side was awsome but it had low compression pistons and the drivers side some one did something and there was marks all over 3 of the pistons so i just finished it off and tore it down, the crank looked new and the mains were over tight so the bearings were toast.
free

plans are just to get it boared over .030 maybe new cam bearings

i have a new scat steel stroker crank my dad gave me for 383, a 400 balancer
free

i picked up a set of gm 5.7 x rods and a set of h860cp-.030 speed pro pistons
they only had a start on them, guy did something wrong and cracked his block. got the set for 100$ with a set of eagle 4 bolt main caps. rods and piston are still in perfect shape.

my heads are a set of 62cc heads that are poted and polished with manley stainless 2.02 valves and guide plates machined for new valve stem seals and as far as i know machined for higher lift.
free my dad built them but never ran them.

my question is what is a good cam shaft for my set up? and should i stick with the x rods or run the powered metal rods my compression should be around 10.6:1 i do not plan to run any boost or spray

car specs are flowmaster exhaust, hedman headders non emmission, msd 6al2 msd dizzy holley fuel pump, holley 650dp with no choke housing and the t5

My math agrees with your static compression. Considering the heads, I'd say it won't matter which rods you run. Hedman's Y-pipe sucks, you'll want to address that.
For the cam, I'd say try this: http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...?csid=160&sb=2
I chose that because I think that much smaller might create issues with high DCR, and I doubt your home-ported heads flow well enough for much bigger. With 9.1:1 and un-ported Vortecs, this cam is awesome from 2400 to 5600 rpm, as I've posted elsewhere. Your intake ports probably aren't quite as good, but your exhaust ports are probably better. Still, I wouldn't go with a single pattern cam, those Vortecs need more split in the cam than this.
What are you topping it with, an RPM AirGap?

yea i hate how the y pipe works out but it will do for now, i plan to run dual exhaust later but for now my 3" stuff is going to have to do, , and yea a air gap or a holley high rise. I pulled the casting numbers on the head and this is what it came up with 3782461....64-66...327......Camel hump,no accessory holes,160/62cc port volumes,62cc chamber
