I was trying to look through the stickys for this swap but couldn't find it. My question is in my 92 RS 5speed what would I need for a iroc 350 swap. Im thinking it should be a straight forward swap but please any input would be great thanks!

What engine do you have now? Are you going to keep the TPI from the 5.7L engine or go with a carb, or other fuel injection system?

I have a 305 TBI 5-speed. As far as intake setup what would you guys reccommend. Im not looking for the fastest car just a high twelve low 13 sec nice running street car. The 305 Lacks power so I figured just a nice rebuild on a 5.7 would be good.

Carb or fuel injection all i would need is the ecu, harness and engine? As far as my tranny is there any 5 speeds worth anything.

Well if you want to go with TPI you'll need the whole TPI setup. A complete TPI 5.7 pull would be your best bet to ensure you get everything you need. You'll need the wiring harness, knock sensor, fuel rails, runners, intake manifold, plenum, throttle body, wiring harness, ECM, PROM, injectors, IAC, TPS, etc. If you buy a complete TPI setup you should be in good shape as all that stuff is rarely separated too much. You will also need a fuel pump as well. I believe the TBI fuel pump is inadequate in terms of PSI for TPI. Someone who knows better than I do will hopefully chime in on that but I believe that's the case. You'll also need to decide if you want to run MAF or speed density TPI. I prefer the latter as the MAF sensors seem more prone to failure. They are also much more expensive when they do fail. Honestly TPI swaps aren't as daunting as they sound. The trick is just getting everything you need to begin with.

A carb is probably technically easier but you won't have quite the driveability that fuel injection offers, nor the low end torque of TPI. Personally I think TPI is the only way to go with SBC's in these cars. Additionally whether you are exempt from emissions testing or not, removal of emissions equipment from your car is technically illegal. This would include the EGR, etc. So going with a carb may lead to problems passing inspection down the line. This is a debate in and of itself but the fact remains that ditching fuel injection for a carb can lead to issues beyond those of a technical nature.

The transmission issue is another matter. The World Class T5 is only rated for 300 foot pounds of torque. Though many people get away with far more than that. Then again there are also plenty of people who have grenaded their T5 behind stock 305 TPI engines. You can always upgrade to a Geforce T5 or you can drop it in favor of a TKO 500 or 600, and the T56 is a popular option as well.

Re: 5.0 to 5.7 tpi

Thank you that was very useful. Sounds fairly easy just a simple plug n play kinda deal. Now as far as the tranny goes will it bolt up to the 5.7? or will i need a bellhousing off the I-roc and clutch assembly.

Re: 5.0 to 5.7 tpi

For which transmission? All T5 bell housings for the V8 cars are compatible with one another. So the bell housing from my car's 305 TPI V8 will work with the 5.7L engine and the 305 TBI, or even the LG4 carbed engines. As I understand it all LT1 T56 bell housings will mate to any SBC so you should be good to go. LSx engines may be a different story.

I believe the World Class T5 came in the cars starting in 1989 or 1990 so you should be good there. It will mate to the 5.7L SBC with no trouble. Externally 305 and 350 blocks look the same. The main difference between the two engines is bore size. 3.75" vs. 4.0".
