v6 to 350 question
v6 to 350 question
I have a 1985 v6 firebird with a 700r, I am swaping to 350 out of a 75 blazer. I know that I have to get a v8 700r but will the v6 torque converter hook up to the engine and transmission or do I need a v8 torque converter?

The V6 torque converter will work fine with a V8 engine and TH700 transmission.

The Blazer most likely had a 168-tooth (14") flexplate. I presumed you would be using a 153-tooth (12-3/4") 3rd gen type flexplate - my bad.
Of course, a flexplate is going to cost a lot less than a torque converter. But, you'll need a 3rd gen starter as well.
So, use the Blazer flexplate and starter with a different torque converter, or get a 3rd gen flexplate and starter.

There is a third option - get a new flexplate for the Blazer application that has the smaller torque converter bolt pattern. Readily available, and don't cost that much.
