need help with Lt1 swap

I recently installed a Lt1 engine in my 91 camaro rs. I made the Lt1 old school. It has a hei distributor in the back of the engine. Also a 600cfm edelbrock carb.
My question is that carb to small for this engine. I'm having probelms when I floor it. My car dosen't move when sitting still. And if I'm cruisng and I floor it. It slows down. Unless I back off the pedel a little bit.
Can some one can help with this. I'm don't know much about carbs.
Thank you for your help

Re: need help with Lt1 swap

Are you using the stock in-tank pump? If so, are you using a return-style regulator? What fuel pressure are you running? What's base timing set at?

LT1 is a 350, 600 carb should be enough to feed it, but I'm no expert.

I'm using an aftermarket in-line fuel pump. It pushes out 6psi. I installed a regulator at the carb. It reads 5psi when running. My timing is at o, til I can figure out the carb. I've been messing this for three months. I'll try anything at this point. Thanks for replying to this question.

Re: need help with Lt1 swap

Did you remove the intank pump and use a carb pickup in the tank?

What carb?

Have you changed out the fuel filter?

Again, I'm no expert on the LT1 motor - My 97Z has one, but it's stock CC FI - this is my experience with reg old SBC, so take it for what it is....

Have you tried setting the timing higher just to see? I wouldn't go crazy to start, just bump it up 2* and see what happens. On any other SBC, most folks start at about 8 or 10 BTDC to get the car running, then go up 2* and run WOT listening for detonation, and keep adding 2* until they hear detonation, then when they hear it, back it down 2* from there, and make sure again there's no detonation at WOT.

My 350 (although NOT an LT1), is set right now at 14* BTDC. I also got a timing tape for the balancer so I could see total timing, and I'm at about 28* total - for me it would be better to get 34* total, so now I know I need lighter springs in the distributor so that the weights can advance the timing faster. Reg old SBC likes to have 32-36 total timing in by 3000-3500 rpms.

Not sure any of that helps. If it were me, I'd play with timing some maybe. Can't hurt to see, as long as you don't have it set where you get detonation and leave it there.

i took out the old pump in the tank and ran a rubber hose then took a in-line fuel pump installed it by the tank. I'm running an (1405 edelbrock carb). The bad thing is this Lt1 don't have timing marks. And I'm not that good at listening to the engine to determine if its set right. I put a one step higher cam in it (2508 edelbrock cam). An electric water pump so I can get rid of the cam driven water pump. All the advise given to my will help. And thank you again for all your help.

Re: need help with Lt1 swap

OK - then I'd post up in the LTx/LSx section. Ask how to determine where the timing mark should be on the balancer and where you should attach a timing tab so you'll have reference points. Then ask if the carb is enough to feed an LT1 since I have no clue.

Most of those folks run FI cars instead of carbed, but someone there should be able to help better than me. I wish you all the best, and let me know what you find out so I'll know if I ever go that route
