what kind of 350 should i look for to put in my 89 formula
OK, the guy i bought the car from said it originally had a 305 TPI in it. He replaced it with a 350 carb. engine with a double pump holley and exhaust headers, upgraded cam, etc. well, it had a miss, and just before i was going to replace all of my plugs, the throttle stuck wide open ( almost causing a wreck since i was in the city) and shortly after that, it shot a valve and now the engine is ruined. i have NO idea how the the throttle got stuck but the engines death was cause by over speed. i just dont know enough about these cars. what 350's will bolt up? im going to try to find a 350 thats set up for a carb. but i just dont know where to find an affordable one that will bolt up with my 1989 firebird formula. i'd like to find one i can just bolt right up in my car and set my holley up on. i need a long block though. looking for a decently priced 350 (around 1000-2500) thats actually backed up by a warranty and professionally built. will just about any 350 bolt up? wheres a good place to look for one? any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are minor differences depending on the year the block was cast, but all SBCs are essentially the same externally.

You might consider a rebuilt crate motor. Competition Products has a nice selection of affordable crate motors but, they're just one seller of crate engines. http://www.competitionproducts.com Also order one of their printed catalogs.
The aftermarket is full of crate engine packages, picking one that fits your budget is possible. Pick up a few car magazines of your choice and scan the adds and classifieds. Or, check with a good and local machine shop. Chances are there are several in your area that could put a motor together for you based on your needs and budget too.
Good luck
