Opinion on a crate motor / swap?

Hello all,

I'm running an 89 iroc-z camaro, 305 TPI with 5 speed manual. Everything is for the most part stock (minus the rear which was changed when the last owner blew it.)

I'm looking into this motor. http://www.jegs.com/i/Blueprint+Engi...4CTC1/10002/-1 to drop in. I'm looking to go back to a carb'd setup and from what I'm seeing this will get me there nicely.

A few friends of mine in the car club think this is a nice deal, and something I should pull the trigger on. before I drop 4 grand, I'm curious if anyone has any opinions on it, or concerns I should look out for, other than likely blowing up the stock T5 that's in it. (I'm aware this will likely happen and I'll need to change it out for something sturdier at some point.)

One of the aforementioned friends has a similar purchase for his Ford and was very satisfied, and I just want to hear some opinions from people who have been swapping engines in for ages. (this will be my first swap)

Thank you in advance,
Bez

Re: Opinion on a crate motor / swap?

You should really be planning this better. With this motor/power you know you will need a new transmission and rearend because this will eat up the stockers you have in there now. I would steer clear of this engine anyway - why use a flat tappet cam in a roller capable block? The GMPP Hot Cam is $200, and the lifters are $120 Might be better to have a local machine shop build what you want.
