BBC Swap - Power Steering Hoses?

I wasn't really sure where this belonged, so I'll just post it here...

I'm basically done my BBC swap in my '83 Z28, but I haven't gotten to dealing with the PS yet.

I have the PS pump and bracketry that came with the big block - I got all the accessories and brackets when I got the motor. Problem is, I'm not sure how to hook up the big block PS pump to the 3rdgen steering box? Does the 3rdgen steering box use metric or imperial threads for the power steering lines? This is my biggest problem. Can I just use the 3rdgen hoses, or do I have to have custom hoses made with metric on one end, and imperial fittings on the other?

The engine was a BBC crate, but its an old Mk IV engine from the '70s or '80s and the PS pump is an old V-belt pump, I assume from the truck the engine was installed in, which was 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton from the late '70s or early '80s (I'm not sure on the year, but probably doesnt make much difference?)

Anyone know if I can just use stock 3rdgen hoses, or do I have to have some custom made for this?

Honestly have no idea!!
Check booboosean & TheDevastator swap threads.

IDK if pulley size would come into play either.
I have the PS pump from our '75 Bigblock in storage with
the motor. So IF the older pump can be used we have a backup
if something were to happen to the '87 pump.
IDK, but you may be on the right path of getting custom hoses
made with the fittings mixed.

Re: BBC Swap - Power Steering Hoses?

Ya I'll get custom hoses made if I have to, but knowing what pre-made PS pressure and return hoses that come in a box cost, I don't really wanna know what custom made ones will cost

I don't see why the pulley should make any difference? I'm not using the 3rdgen pump, I'm using the one original to the big block, though maybe I'm missing something here? The big block pump *should* be a bolt-on-and-go deal once I get hoses sorted out. The pump itself looks fine, turns smoothly, and already has a pulley on it as well as the mounting brackets....?

Does anyone know if the fittings that go into the 3rdgen steering box (not the pump) are just std NPT flare fittings, or is there something different about them? If they are just normal NPT stuff, then I don't see why a set of hoses for an older vehicle with that BBC pump wouldn't work...?

Re: BBC Swap - Power Steering Hoses?

In a thread by Chev496, he used a PS pump that was on the Bigblock. I don't recall what it came out of.
Sorry I didn't get the link--I just found it & now I gotta go.
If you can't find it, I'll get the link later 2night for ya.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...ot-my-big.html

PS pump from '89 Suburbanalong with all the brackets & 2 V-belts.

Exhaust manifolds from a 2003 Chevy truck, 8100 series motor, stainless steel.

A few pics, & some pics are gone!!

So maybe the Suburban has the correct fittings???
