A few questions while doing a swap...

I got my camaro from an apparent moron of shortcuts and am planning a 305 to 350 swap and just had a few questions, that may or may not belong here...

Bare with me I'm learning as I go on this car... and I'm pretty sure Dad's given up on it...

First I've been trying to fix the vacuum lines because it seems he cut them all... I think I've got them all sorted out from a diagram I found here... exept one on the rear of the throttle body that splits and goes to the vacuum ball and hvac?

And then maybe an inch behind that on the manifold is what looks like a copper sensor with a vacuum line on it... what is it? Where does it go?

And my fan dosnt seem to kick on when the engine gets hot but will when you turn on the AC... the temp sensor at the front of the manifold has ohms output but dosnt kick it on... nor did shorting the wire which would lead me to the relay but i would think that was working if it kicked on for the AC...

I think thats all for now...
Thanks for your help...
Andrew.

The vacuum ball/HVAC is for the reservoir for your heater doors. This keeps a vacuum so the doors don't shut when you turn off the car. The brass sensor on the intake is a ported vacuum switch for various emissions stuff. It will have a vacuum source and then the switch will divert it at a certain temp. Check for a second temp switch for the fan. It will most likely have a single dark green wire and most likely on the head. This grounds the relay at a set temp to turn the fan on. The sensor with the yellow and black wires is for the gauge/computer. Since your fan comes on with the A/C, we can assume the relay and fan motor is good.

Yea knew what the ball... or ball of doom I think it was called in the post I found... was for just wasn't a hundred percent on the line locations... but there was a line with the one for the heater valve so I think I have that all figured out... i dont see any other lines for the sensor though... and alot of the emissions things have been removed... yea the gauge works fine... but what i thought was the one for the fan (front end of manifold) has yellow and black wires... Found the one on the head... gonna check it in a bit...

Re: A few questions while doing a swap...

Ok got the fan worked out and finished the swap but ran into a new problem... got halfway to work and the car completely died... Turned out to be a dead short that burned the ground by the battery in half... Was hopeing for the starter because it was a used I got because I didn't know to change the flywheel on the truck 350 ... Took it off nothing in it... Put it back on no short now... Bought a new one anyway to be safe... Checked around and could find any wires against the engine or exuast... And thought I smelled burnt wire in the cab but didn't see anything... Are there grounds in the cab? Where? Could it have shorted them too?... Oh and I noticed I missed the body to passenger side head ground in hooking things up... Could that be it?

Thanks.

Possibly, all the ground current for everything except the engine would have been flowing through it.

Re: A few questions while doing a swap...

Think I got it worked out... hooked up the ground to the back of the engine, reran the battery ground and ran a ground from the starter to the same spot... just gonna run it around town to make sure before going to work (45 min). now to fix my exhaust leak and stalling issue.
