305 to 350 swap

i have a 83 trans am with a 305 i just pulled out, and i have an old 350 my uncle used in his camaro while he was racing at the track, i am pretty much not using anything that was used on the 305, the 350 will have a carburetor. i have 2 concerns, one being motor mounts, im not sure if its the same block or not, and second is the transmission, what do i do i need some guidance please!!!

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

Take out the 305, put in the 350.

(BTW, this isn't a "Pontiac engine swap" topic. The 305 and 350 are small block Chevy engines, not Pontiac engines.)

Re: 305 to 350 swap

so the motor mounts will be ok to use? is the block the same? i measured the mounts off both the 305 and the 350 and they are very close. it is off by one inch, so that means the motor will be one inch closer to the fire-wall, are there brackets or something i should use?

Use all the mounts and brackets off the 305.

The same headers fit either engine, there are about a dozen different ones you get get off the shelf.

Re: 305 to 350 swap

ok so i shouldnt have to worry about space between the firewall or anything else? because the block is the same so i would imagine everything is similar...

As long as your uncle had a Chevy engine in his Camaro, yes.

Re: 305 to 350 swap

If you are saying that you have headers already on the uncle's Camaro 350 engine, they will only fit if that Camaro was a 3rd gen (only 3rd gen specific headers will fit a 3rd gen car).

Re: 305 to 350 swap

No what he is saying is that because your Uncle had the engine in a Camaro everything will swappable with no modification to the engine bay/firewall or any of that shenanigans. Since the 305 and 350 use the same motor mounts, the third gen 350 will go into a third gen without any effort outside plugging it in and installing it. Fbody is Fbody is Fbody. ;D You need not worry about headers or other dodads since the third gens were made practically the same aside from the body styling.
