Performance questions

Hello all,
I am new to this forum, and to the world of Camaro owners. I have loved the Camaro since before I was legal to drive, but circumstances being what they were, have never been able to afford one. Long story short, my wife let me purchase a car last winter and I managed to pick up a 1989 Camaro from a friend of my brother-in-law. I am at least the third owner of it, and the kid I bought it from does not know much about it. He has no contact number for the guy he got it from, so I have no idea what all has been done to it. I got the car in Feb of 2010, and I drove it home and it sat for a month or so. It has a 355 under the hood, but they left the stock Transmission bolted up to it (it was a V6 RS.) In March, I took it to my mechanic, who fixed the center link, tie rod ends, replaced the brake lines and dropped in a TH350 with a 2600 stall and HD gears. While he was transporting it, they managed to overheat it and bent a valve. While in the process of fixing that, he told me he's pretty sure it's bored 30 over. It has headers on it, I'm not sure what brand they are, but they are rusty. the rest of the exhaust system is 3-inch stainless all the way back with a Flowmaster muffler. It does not have posi. None of my gauges work, whoever installed the engine pretty much snipped off all the wires at the firewall, so there is no computer or anything like that to worry about. The only gauge I have that works right now is the speedometer, I already have plans for replacement on those. It has a Holley Street Dominator and Holley carb on it, not sure on the model number or where to look for that. I believe the fuel pump is Edelbrock. It has a Moroso distributor/wires and edelbrock valve covers. It still has standard rockers, I have plans for those too, but am open to suggestions. I think the cam has been replaced, but am not sure what other modifications may have been done to the engine. What I am looking for is any information about the car that may be helpful to me, or any advice for making it faster and/or more fuel economic. I have not driven it much, but it only gets around 7mpg. Also, I cannot seem to get the tires to squeal for more than half a block, so it seems a bit underpowered to me for as much as has been done to it already. I am looking for anything I can bolt on to add power, as I have limited tools and space so I can't make my own parts. I have some basic knowledge of automotives, so I think I could handle just about anything. I've already adjusted the valves, the shop guy told me they were set too tight and that's what caused the engine to blow, so I readjusted all of them. Please help out a noob...
Thanks
