ok im doin some work for a buddy of mine,
the project is an 82 camaro, it was a v6 now it has a 350 v8, nothing too special just some good heads, and intake and the summit 1105 cam.
the motor and trans is in the car but here is the problem...

im trying to hook up all necesary wires just to get the motor to start but hell i cant even figure out what wires go to the starter lol, its a big rats nest of wires but they are all factory and all still in the black plastic wrap looms, i could probably do it if i knew what colors and how many went to each post on the starter (big and small) and what went to the distributor which i think i found, there are two wires with each other that are pink and one is brown,
but if anyone can help or even just tell me where to run some new wires from starter to fire wall i can do that too.

Just go down to the auto parts store and buy the manual. The Haynes or Chilton's manual has the wiring schematics in the back. They are decent enough drawings, and detailed enough to get you done.

what are you doing for fuel delivery? carb, tbi, tpi? lots of good wiring diagrams can be found here, but definitely recommend grabbing yourself a Helms manual for your vehicle if you really want to make sure you've got all the details.

i have a chilton but all i can really find is that it says i need to be looking for a purple wire but hell there are wires everywhere lol

 

Start by locating the BIG FAT harness that comes from the pass side fender well. If your not using a computer-controlled carb and dist such as would have been stock in these cars, you don't need that. Find EVERY SINGLE WIRE that comes out of that harness, unplug it, peel it back, and tie it out of the way.

When you get done, you will have ONLY the wires that come out of the harneses that start near the brake booster, plus the HVAC one that comes through near the heater core.

WHen you get it to that point, there will be a harness breakout with several BIG FAT RED wires and one purple wire. VERY easy to spot. That one goes to the starter. The red wires go on the same terminal with the batt cable, and the purple one goes on the "S" terminal (small one cloer to the block).

 

sofakingdom.... now that was an explanation i was looking for, sounds great, i will be going to his house today or tomorrow to see if i can get it done, now the big red wires and puple wire, how many red wires and also are they in a seperate black plastic wiring loom by their selves along with the purple one, and if im thinkin right they come out of the fire wall by the booster and do not come from the engine side of the fire wall,,, correct?
