350 from camaro to boat?

i know its a little off topic, but i have gathered up half my lsx swap parts and was wondering what i should do with my old 350 from the camaro, runs good doesnt smoke, its a 1970 350 from a caprice with 250 hp stock, 882 heads rollers and ported, headers, 1406 edel carb, rpm air gap intake, accel super coil with moduel hei and the e3 plugs (starts so much easier over ngk imo)

so my dad has a 1988 sea ray pacanga 2, we use it for water sports and crusing, he loves holdin er at 65mph all day, with a 350 chevy, its completely stock with the thru hull exhaust, so im thinking why not put my highpo camaro motor in it.

I guess heres my question, i dont know much about boats besides they float, and seen some distrubters that are meant for marine? will my hei work? and i assume i have to reuse his heads or would my ported 882s work? wanna try to get 5 tubes up next summer :P can get 4 now but its sluggish on start

Your HEI will work, but I've heard it's not recommended. Distributors, Carb's, alternators, and other parts that are meant for boats are built a little different than the same parts on a car for safety reasons.

The block and heads and possibly the intake can be used....my girlfriend's 78 camaro has a vortec 350 in it that was originally built for a boat. All she did was ditch the POS volvo fuel injection and replaced it with a good rochester carb and performer intake.

Re: 350 from camaro to boat?

Might be a difference in intakes and definitely water pump - since there is no radiator in a boat. The coolant comes from/circulates to the lake. I had a 350 marine SBC I was going to use for the car, but went with a different motor. I remember the water pump definitely was different and I want to think the intake was as well. But beyond bolt-ons, SBC is SBC.

I guess the HEI system might tend to go through ignition modules more often in a boat (since they are always in/around water) - the plate in the ignition module has a tendency to rust causing electrical resistance and thus failure. But as long as it stays dry, and is lubed well with the dielectric grease, shouldn't be a problem.
