305 TPI to SB 350 or 5.7 LT1
305 TPI to SB 350 or 5.7 LT1
I recently bought an 86 IROC-Z with the 305 TPI. Im wanting to swap into an engine with some more horses. I found 3 listings of CL for some engines.
A complete 2-bolt SB 350- $300
A 350 with a main bearing that is going out- $150
An a guy that swapped his LT1 for an LT4 and is now selling the stock LT1- $200
If the 350 are carb'd how would I go about switching them over to my TPI from the 305?
Would it be easier or cheaper to just swap in the LT1?
Any help would be great. I am new to Chevy's and this forum so you might new to explain things in detail.

The lt1 swap would be very time comsuming u would need to replace harness ecm doin the 350 would be in my opinion the cheapest/easiest way to go everything will hook up and u can either find an ecu from a originally equipt car perferbly f-body w/350 or i beleave you can burn your own proms but thats going to have to be left up to someone that knows for sure im a carb kinda guy

I see its only a lt1 motor right? No trans? If so just get the 350 bottom end and put your tpi on top of it and upgrade to l98 parts to support it (injectors, ecm, etc)
Most think a lt1 can be simple if you go cheap ie reusing the 700r4 but its not. It can be made a simple swap but that's if you are resourceful and have the motor and trans together for it.

Yes, the LT1 does not come with the transmission.
I might just get the 350 bottom end for the - $150 & replace the main bearing.
Also will my TPI match up to the 350 bottom end without modification? Just need a 350 ecm and some stronger injecters.
What else from the 305 tpi with bolt back on and support the 350?
Also there is a 4 bolt 350 for $500 what is the difference between the 2 & 4 bolt 350's.
My friend totaled his 99 Camaro SS a few months ago. I asked for his dashboard, clusters, harness, seats, and console he said I could have them.
He wants to sell me the cars differential for $400, I know him to take real good car of his cars but is it worth the money.

If I recall 87+ it should kbolt up. You will need the ecm, sensors, injectors and knock sensor if I recall.
As far as the diff if its a posi go for it even more a 3.42. Just remember that 4th gen rears make our wheels well stock wheels stick out further.
