Replacing 305 for rebuild
Replacing 305 for rebuild
So I bought a 92 rs with a 305 v8 few weeks ago and it is due for a swap or rebuild. Found a local guy who was offering to sell his 87 for parts or the whole car and he said he would sell the motor for 350$ it is a rebuilt 305 and he got the car in a trade so he said he doesn't know of any problems it may have he also stated he would do the swap for me and sell the motor for a flat 1k$ not sure what to think for this but it def seems like a great deal but I am also a car idiot here is the link to his original ad so people can get an idea for it it's a risk but it's also chea not sure what I should do I saw the engine run and it sounded great and ran clean also what questions should I ask him about this

You never know by the appearance but if he is going to scrap the thing he ought to be shot. If it starts and moves it has enough parts to buy it. I would. Pull the engine pop off the exhaust and intake and inspect the condition through the ports, do a compression check and smoke test for leaks. If you like what you see pull yours pull all what is probably TBI parts and sensors off drop it in and go. Sell off the good stuff at swap meets and craigs list and you can get your money back.
