V8 conversion help!!!!

Ok so I have a 86 firebird with a ton of work done to it. I origanally built the car to make it for the track but it just take way to much money to turn the numbers these guys are turning with these turbos and other power adders. I have a 609 hp dart 427ci small block chevy with and accel dfi fuel injection system. It also has a built 700r4 and a bolt in ford nine inch. A PA racing SBC K-member,front coil overs. It has a spohn trans mount (700r4 and turbo 400) and pro torque arm, QA1 rear coil over kit and a moser ford 9" rear. My new plan is to remove everything i want out of car and put it in a 82-92 camaro 5 speed.

My main question are I want to keep the ac, power steering and 5 spped in the car and put the on my small block. I a not farmilar with the v6 or 5 speed cars. I looked up the parts and they are the same part numbers between the two but are all the brackets to mount up the front the same? Also will the T5 5 speed bell housing mount to the rear or the v8?
Please let me know any information you have. Also pics or other forus know with help.

Re: V8 conversion help!!!!

The T5 from an 8 cylinder car will bolt up, but not from a 6 cylinder car.

Your motor will simply grenade a T5 - You'd be lucky to make it to the track, let alone actually drive on it. GM never put the T5 behind even their 215hp 350 motor because it's too weak. You need to look at a T-56 6 speed tranny from a 4th gen car, or better tranny if you want manual.

Re: V8 conversion help!!!!

Your going to have to change the motor mounts in the v6 car to v8 mounts and relocate them, they are not the same, which means your going to have to relocate the front brake lines also to accomodate this.

Everything will mount up to the camaro as it is the same frame. Like newbie said, dont even bother hooking a 5 speed up to your block unless you plan on using only 1/8 inch of the gas pedal .

Re: V8 conversion help!!!!

There's no demand for broken T5s. But choose an '88-'92, then sell the WC T5 for about $600, you're well on your way to a T56 from a '94.5-'97 LT1 F-car.

Re: V8 conversion help!!!!

Ditto on needing a trans swap, I am not even sure a built t5 can handle those kinds of #s, especially N/A, like the others I agree t-56 is the way to go if you want it manual, but I would not even think about hooking up that kind of power to a stock t5.
Oh and also like they said, it won't bolt up anyways, the v6 3rdgens use a 60* bellhousing, while the v8s use a 90* bellhousing.
