I have a 1987 LS Camaro with a 2.8L Cross-fire Multi port fuel injected v6, with none of the vacuum lines hooked up. If you know anything about the type of motor you will understand my problem. So I want to swap the 2.8 out for a 4.3 vortec with a turbo. If you have any tips please post. Thanks Jesse.

Do you really own a 4.3 that is ready to be swap??.Do you know that the 2.8 tranny will not work with a 4.3??.

i agree with the above
not sure why having the vacuum lines un hooked is such a problm, there arent that many of them and their are plenty of members on here that can help you with it on the v6 board.

Yeah... don't.
You'll be doing all the work and going to all the expense of a V8 swap, but you'll still have a 6-cyl.
I would put that in the class of, ALOT of maze, and NO cheese at all.
I know absolutely nothing whatsoever about the 2.8 (or any other 6-cyl) except that I don't want anything to do with one.
For the time, money, and effort you'll put into building and tuning a turbocharged 6-cyl and getting it to run anything like competitively more than twice, without the deep pockets of, say, BUICK having done all the REAL work FOR YOU beforehand, you could probably build at least 3 450 HP V8s. I'd recommend a complete change of plans.

With the TPI and TBI its not as much of a problem but on my cross fire it is essential in the running condition of the car. I have worked on other cross fires like mine and have plugged two vacuum lines and watched hp and mpg drop by almost half. I don't why but the motor is just funny like that and no I don't have the 4.3 on hand it was just an idea and I wanted to see if it was a good or bad idea.Originally Posted by Pillsbry10

the 4.3 is basically a sbc with 2 cylinders missing. it uses the same v8 mounts, the v8 tranys and so forth. so its essintially the same as doing a v8 swap, youll just be 2 cylinders short. if you just want to ditch the v-6, sell it and buy a decent v-8 car. itll be cheaper in the long run.
if you wanna keep the car, grab the v-6 tpi, hanress and computer and convert the xfire to standard tpi. or find a vacuum diagram for the xfire and redo the vacuum lines.

Not that I'm aware of; nor with TPI.
If it's a 6, it has either the Vara-Jet carb, or a version of MPFI. Changed over sometime in the mid 80s no doubt, like every other kind of motor.
TPI is a specific MPFI system that was only used on V8s in certain car models, these being one of them.

That's about like saying "elephant" when talking about a mouse... yeah they both have 4 legs and a tail and warm blood and are vegetarian; doesn't make the words equivalent.

Not quite sure what your trying to say here. As far as a 2.8 to 4.3 my tip would be DON'T do it. Waste of time and money. Nothing on your 2.8 is usable. Accessories are different, transmission ect. The only thing usable in the drivetrain will be the driveshaft and rear end. If your unhappy with the 2.8's performance, sell the car and buy a V8 car to start with.
