305 tpi to 350 carb'd
305 tpi to 350 carb'd
i have a 87 z28 with a 305 tpi thats run like trash since i got it. idles rough, no power compared to other 305s i have been in, its time for a change. I have a 305 out of a older K5 lined up for my swap. its a 350 with mild cam work and holly carb and intake. my question is since im going carb i dont need all my sensors correct? i pretty much lose all my sensors and wiring other then whats need to make it run and opperate correctly. would this make my check engine light trip? and is there anything i need to kno like "do this" or "dont do this" facts when doing the swap
thanks for the help

DONT cut any wires. thats the #1 screw up people make when doing the swap. nothing needs to be cut in the process.

Which is it, a 305, or a 350?
Personally, I'd sell off the carb stuff and stay with TPI.
If you do keep the carb, have you considered the effects on the transmission? You will need a TV cable geometry corrector bracket for the throttle arm, and some means of locking up the torque converter clutch.
Assuming you have an automatic transmission (you didn't say).
You will also need different throttle cables for the carb, both for the accelerator pedal and the transmission TV.
Most likely the K5 has a 168-tooth flexplate/flywheel. That may be fine (if you have an automatic transmission - won't work with a T5), but you will need to use a matching starter. If you have aftermarket headers, they sometimes interfere with a 168-tooth starter. Depending upon how old this engine is ('86-later, or '85-earlier), the flexplate/flywheel from your 305 may not fit.
Understand that the typical truck head is performance junk.

Re: 305 tpi to 350 carb'd
sorry for the confusion...i have a 305 going to a 350 from the k5
i believe the tpi set up is what is gibing me most of my issues thats why i wanted to go back to carb..i have a little more expierence with a crab'd car ...the transmission cable i was wondering myself because yes i do have an automatic. i did want to switch to a manual but dont want to under go that project right now.
as for the starter.....let put it this way, we are taking his 100% running k5 and taking what ever is necessary from it to make the camaro run right....i might even take his trans if need be
exactly what would i have to do with the trans to make the stock trans in the camaro now work on the 350 if i do carb it?

Re: 305 tpi to 350 carb'd
youd need a tv cable from an auto carbed or tbi 3rd gen, and a goemetry corrector bracket for the carb. you can use the throttle cable from any tbi or carbed 3rd gen as is.
