Re: 305 tpi to 383 carb

if you have never built an engine before, maybe you should take that 305, disassemble it, a rebuild it to gain experience, that way you won't have any problems with the 383 that could cost you a huge amount of money in damage.

Do a Google search on 383 builds.
Plenty of online info out there on what parts to use to make what HP
Only limit is your budget

Re: 305 tpi to 383 carb

Yea... I was going to build a 383 for my car, but decided against it when a friend of mine told me he had a 350 pushing 400HP out of his stock car(race). 400HP is around the mark I was looking for so it worked out well. To build a good 383 you're going to be around the 10 Grand mark by the time you are done upgrading all the stuff you have to.

Jumping from lets say 195(maxish) HP on your 305 to 400+HP 383 You're going to be replacing(rebuilding) your Transmission, and rear end. Not to mention adding some traction bars and or stabilizer bars. Depending on your transmission it'll be expensive. if you're sporting a 700r4 plan to spend about $1500-$3000 on beefing it up enough to hold the HP.

Re: 305 tpi to 383 carb

ive been reading alot on the 383 im pretty sure i could do it just worried cuz lack of experience and the money im gonna be puttin in the car i plan on having most of the work done by the machine shop
i got a 350 turbo trans off a friend of mine plan on having a shop rebuild it as well and the 5/16 bolt in the carrier broke off and the pin slid back into the pinion gear so i have to get a new rearend anyway planned on putting some new shocks, springs and other suspension under while its apart
my girlfriends dad does paint and body so probably gonna have him fix the rust add subfame connectors and paint it after all the drivetrain is ready
for colors i was thinking a darker blue, gun metal silver or black what do u guys think
