May be the wrong area, but....

This may need to be posted in electronics, but Ill try here first. I have a 1985 Camaro Z28 that the previous owner swapped a 1989 5.7 TPI into. I am looking at the battery cable upgrade kit from innovative wiring and needed to know, what year camaros came with a driverside battery? I need to know b/c I am not sure which kit i need to order. The 5.7 has driverside alternator with serpentine setup, but unsure of if the 85 came with a stock driverside battery. Any help pointing to the proper battery cable kit will be greatly appreciated.

All TPI Camaros came with passenger side batteries.

Out of curiosity, why the upgrade cable? The factory cable is perfectly sufficient.

From what I am gathering, the PO must have installed a 5.7 tpi from a firebird. Looks like he also relocated the battery to the driverside with the swap.

I am looking at the $80.00 upgrade kit from innovative wiring because I have read great things about the kit on here and would like to upgrade the existing power/ground cables. I figured it can't hurt to upgrade and may actually be benificial to the car. i.e. brighter lights, better voltage

Looks like I may be alright ordering the 88-92 Firebird upgrade kit. Battery is on driverside and have the firebird 5.7 in the Camaro, so everything should plug right on in.

$80 for a cable? I'm assuming that this cable goes between your alternator and your battery, correct? If so, you can build one yourself for about $15. Get some nice 4 AWG wire from your local car stereo shop, and get a couple crimp on ring terminals for a couple bucks.

If you're not pushing a big stereo system, you can even get away with an 8 AWG car-audio grade wire between the alternator and battery, which will cost even less.

Keep in mind though, that your alternator to battery cable is only part of the equation. You want to also make sure that you upgrade your grounds from the battery to the chassis as well as between the motor and chassis.

This is not just a cable, it is a full kit. Battery to Starter, Battery to Alt, Ground wires, pigtails off battery all of it. And it is all 0/1 Gauge

Replacing the large wire between your battery and starter isn't going do any good. The only thing that may improve your car's electrical system performance is the wire between the alternator and battery, and upgrading your ground paths. You can make your own for 1/4 the price of that kit, but if you want to spend $80 for the kit, knock yourself out.
