Well i know this topic about the lsx is often talked about. So if i ask any dumb questions dont bash me. Im not mechanically inclined in any way lol. I have a few mechanics that does all the work for me. Ok here goes

My 88 is my dd. I've read all i could about the mpg with the lsx. BUT (correct if im wrong) the power really doesnt kick it until higher up in the powerband. I'm not looking to do all out racing. Just a little fun at the stoplight lol. I understand that the lsx is better for longevity and all that but is lsx is worthy of the sacrifice of low end torque?

It's not like the 6.0 is lacking any low-RPM torque, even with a medium camshaft. It's that the power just keeps on building stronger and stronger. You could get the same results from a 350 with really good heads. As for how either one feels when moving away from a dead stop, that's more dependent on the rest of the drivetrain. Running a T56 with a 3.42:1 axle is sure to favor a mild 383, sure, but if you're going with an automatic, then the torque converter will be the primary determining factor in how the car behaves. On the LSx forums, you'll read a lot about converters with stall ratings in the 3600-4400 range, but those aren't rated the same way as the older B&M / TCI offerings. Based on my own experiences, and watching youtube clips of normal driving with the camera showing the tachs, those 3600 converters drive like traditional 2000-stalls, the 4000 stalls drive like older 3000-stalls, and the 4400-stall drives like 2400-stall. Running an LSx with an automatic means using less axle ratio than you would with a classic 350, to take advantage of the potential for much better MPG, and that'll make any converter feel a bit looser, which I never get used to, and always find annoying anytime I'm not driving like I was 17 again. Gas prices will never again drop between $3/gal, and how can you enjoy a car that you can't afford to drive? Isn't driving fun the reason for building it? But you not being a mechanic means that the 383 will cost you far less up front, versus paying for a conversion by someone who's probably not familiar with the swap.

ok thanks. i think ima go with the lsx. Money isnt an issue because this build will happen over a matter of months, so i will be able to stretch my money. Also i ran across a ls1 block for $500...pretty good deal? And i ran across a complete one too. Wiring and all for $3500. Should i get the block since im going to throw aftermarket parts on it anyway?

The 4L60E for $500 is a good price IF it includes a really goot warranty / exchange policy. $500 is way too much for just a block, and $3500 is way too much for a complete engine, even with wiring. Complete LS1s are worth around $2000, or save half that and get a truck 6.0L version, then spend most of the difference changing the oil pan, FEAD, intake manifold, fuel rails and injectors, but end up with more power, and a little heavier block. $500 should get you a complete 5.3L or 4.8L, and the 4.8 has a couple of slight advantages if you're considering big boost from a turbo or 2. That's the best way to get big power and approach 35 MPG, just don't gear it too tall. 4.8s don't like that. They sure won't do it if geared for 1430 @ 65 like the LS1 was.
