TBi LO3 into tpi
I have a Iroc Z-28 305, it's threw a rod out of the sump so I'm guessing it's internally toasted...
I have aquired a 305 TBi engine out of a 25th anniversary car with a slight bottom end knock, to rebuild and fit in my car..
Just want to know if the TPi gear will fit onto the TBi block? would it be better for performance to transplant any of the other TPI bits onto the LO3 engine...
Thanks all!

don't waste your money! you have a 305 that is toast and another 305 that needs rebuilding. please go 350 or beyond and get your money worth even a bare bones 350 is worth more and will give you more service for half the money than the 305. and cost less to rebuild heck you might even find a 350 with low miles at almost any j-yard for less than $300 possibly vortec! your money but when I kept having trouble with my 305 tbi and the computer I went in the barn and grabbed the 350 I purchased 3 years ago and started building it. Vortec headds and intake a good carb. and a xe268h cam and ITS ON! but remember this is just my opinion!
Re: TBi LO3 into tpi
You didn't answer his question at all. He already has the 305, and most of the parts, so why not work with it? Not everybody has to have a 350 to get their rocks off.
The block should work fine as long as you swap over the heads and all (the TPI manifold would conflict fitting-wise with L03 heads, I believe). I've never actually done the conversion myself, though. There are a number of threads on here regarding converting a TBI into a TPI. Most of them are swapping in a TPI engine rather than converting the engine itself, but I think you may still find some helpful information.
Best of luck!

The shortblocks are basically the same. The cam and heads from the TPI engine should be moved over to the TBI shortblock.
The TPI will fit on the TBI heads, but the TBI heads aren't as good as the TPI heads, performance-wise.

I apologize I was thinking of the cost of doing a complete rebuild vs the 350 swap now that read a little deeper I see that he's talking simply using all of the good out and off the other motor. once again i apologize. next time i'll read it completely thru b4 commenting!

Thanks guys, just what i wanted to hear..
FYI here in the UK a 305 with a knocking bottom end will cost you $300 and that's from a forum not commercially! a nice cut out 350 out of a running car will cost over $1000
