3.1 tpi to 5.7 carb swap and build.

I have a carbed 350 that came from an 88' IROC and a 700r4 trans from a caprice police car. The research I've done tells me somebody took an older truck engine and put it in their car. I'm planning on building this engine as strong as I can for the money I have but I want to make sure I get everything that will work together. I'm not completely sure of my budget yet, most of it is graduation money I will be getting soon. I will have a better idea of my budget within a week. As of now it's looking as wide a range as 7-9k. I have 6k of my own right now.

I'm looking to: put a nice size cam in for performance, rockers, lifters, maybe aluminum heads if I can, a good intake, a good size carb(heard Holleys are best but haven't decided size), should I replace radiator? would like to put posi rear in(need help with what gears would be best), flat top pistons? quality water pump I should use, do I need to replace front springs? headers, etc.. I know there's more but I haven't started yet.

I have the 350 stripped down to just pistons, crank, cam, and timing set. I plan on removing everything to bare block when we get our tools back and then get everything I need to build the engine and swap it in. Please be patient with me, this is my first v8 swap. I just wanted to start this thread as I do a complete engine and trans swap(along with rear) over summer and start getting ideas on what I should do.

Edit: Also want to mention this is a daily driver, but only short distances. I don't want to go too crazy and make it a strip only car. I just want to have a street car that will get up and go.

Re: 3.1 tpi to 5.7 carb swap and build.

My block casting number is 10054727(350...86-up...2 or 4...one piece rear seal, some "Made in Canada"). Casting Date is L 07 8(Dec 7th 1988 for model year 1989). Engine Code: K1115TPA(for a ‘92 350cid truck 210hp L-05 tranny TBI). Head Casting is 14102193(87-up... 305/350...... 1.94"/1.5" valves). That's all I could find.
With that said, I was thinking putting aluminum heads on with hydraulic roller cam, roller lifters, and valvetrain and rockers that agree, Holley carb, selling 700r4 and buying a manuel transmission, quality pistons, possibly radiator upgrade.
I know there is a lot more to get but I'm still trying to make up my mind on some thing. I haven't decided what brand or type of heads or cam. I'm not sure I can put a hydraulic roller cam in this block. I can't figure out what to get with pistons. Also haven't decided on 5 speed or 6 speed. Any help and/or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I have read that before and I guess that answers the front springs and radiator question and a little of the rear end.. I know of the complicity of this swap and have talked to many people of what I need to do to the car, but I guess what I'm really asking is, is for some ideas to building this new engine. I know the rear end could probably stay, but I would like to have a posi rear with the best gears for my build. I know I can convert the current rear, but I'm open to anything right now. I also heard radiator is good for a v8 but I might just get a bigger one to be safe. I know front springs need to be upgraded but I'm just asking for ideas.
Right now I'm researching a lot about this engine and trying to put together a list of things to do to/ put on it. But if anyone would like to put suggestions for parts or things to do, please do.

So that is not a swap related question for this section.

Ask or review the multitude of engine building posts in 3rd Gen Engine
