Need new engine. Stick with 305 or go to 350. Want more horse power.
Im going to need a new engine and the guy is willing to give me a really good deal with the swap. But as long im going to be getting a new engine i dont want the same low horse powered 305 pushing only like 170 hp. Also should i go tpi or tbi. I have a tbi right now so would i need different parts to make it work. I really would want atleast 230 horsepower to make a noTicable difference and even more would be great. What should i do so its not too expensive but gives out more than stock power and not to expensive. Thanks

Well you could make 230hp with a 305 running with the TPI system but you would need to have a 5sp mated to the engine because the automatic would Kill hp down to 200ish, so if you could get a 350 engine that would be Great ( if you have an automatic ) because then you can make enough hp. I currently don't know whether you have an A4 or M5. So here's how it goes. For $2500 you could have a 350 TPI setup making 250hp

If your on a budget and want power, just keep your current injection system, and go 350. Its more hp then the 305 now, and if you ever want alot of power you'l be doing the swap eventually.

350tpi or 350tbi?
i really wouldnt want to spend over $1500 on everything but labor.
what are the parts needed to do the swap?

tbi heads are ****. depending on what injection route you go you have to switch computers and maybe wiring. theres tons of threads on how to swap an engine just do a search.
id say search around get yourself a nicely built 350 with no heads or mani. get some vortec heads a vortec manifold and run tbi or tpi but the mani has to be compatible with either. or do it the easy way and go carbd

switch computers and harness. you need the tpi setup and a good set of heads and your basically there. theres not much difference between a vette engine and the camaro tpi engine. buy yourself a used 350 block with good bores and mains and all that with the rotating aseembly buy a rebuild kit. heads, a nice cam like the lt1 is one of my faves for economy ish driving. and put the thing together. if you really wanted a good swap pick up a cheap lt1 engine and put that in and wire it all up
