Would an LS-7 and 6speed stick or auto be a relatively easy swap?

Would an LS-7 and 6speed stick or auto be a relatively easy swap?

I see lots of info about LS-1 swaps. But I wanted to drop an LS-7, with either a 6-speed stick or auto. Any thoughts on how doable this is, and whether I could keep stock hood (1992 Z-28 btw), keep the AC, etc?

Many thanks.

Why would you ever want an auto LS7?

Should be no different than a LS1 swap.

Thanks mate. I hear ya - I would of course prefer a stick. Just that my car is an auto and I hear converting it to a stick can be a biatch.

Thanks.

Do you think I could keep the stock hood even with an LS-7?

Thanks!

oil sump system is different which will require modification, and you'll need a custom set of headers to begin with since this isn't a common swap. I'd started the swap at one point and it gets expensive very quickly because of the unique parts to the LS7 (that and the fact.. well.. it's an LS7 - not much to be said about it). Katech makes some parts for the swap to make things a little easier.

Routing is going to be a bit of an issue. There were some guys having issues with AC routing; I personally didn't care since I don't use mine anyways. Also remember this is a drive-by-wire setup and you'll need to play around with that a little as well. Not a big deal, but not the same as the LS1 either.

If you can swap an engine you should be able to swap a trans. Also when you have the bay empty the trans is easy. Get the LS7 6speed and enjoy.

for the amount being invested, I actually agree. Take advantage of the T56.

Thanks a ton fellas.

DeltaElite, based on what you are saying, I take it an LS-3 punched out to 427 cubes (or close to it) would be alot easier than a true LS-7 427?

That was my general consensus. Don't get me wrong - and LS7 is a badass motor.. but there's more than one way to skin a cat, I guess. Also keep in mind the cylinder walls on the LS7 have been known to crack and cause major issues on standard vette setups. It's not an every day thing, but you'll see people mentioning it from time to time. I think you should steer clear of the LS7 simply because the aftermarket is currently better on the other LSx motors. More aftermarket = more affordable.
