I thought I already posted this, but i'll be damned if I can find it anywhere. I have an 89 with complete not running 305 that i'm gonna dump my 68 327 small block with vortec heads into. Question is, can I swap the serpentine system over to the 1st gen small block? I assume I can. Also, the car is carburated so do I need to shop for a one wire alternator? I can buy the water pump for the 305 and it will fit the 327? What about the self tentioner, and the power steering pump? What else do I need to know to pull this off?? Thanks guys!!

 

The serpentine setup should work with the older block and the newer Vortec Heads. One wire alternator is not necessary as long as you have the original alternator wiring there. Otherwise you can wire up a regular alternator by figuring out where one of the wires goes to. The main wire is obviously battery and one of the other two can go to an ignition hot wire or use the one wire. I have to use a one wire or get a special diode setup for my boat with a 350 Olds.
Water pump will still be the 305 pump. The serpentine brackets should have the mounting holes for the tensioner and power steering pump. Use the powersteering pump from the 305.
