Cam schooling appreciated and wanted!!!

Any and all input is greatly appreciated. I'm shopping for cams. The only thing I think I understand is about the intake/exhaust specs. For instance, I think I need to be less than .500 for my stock l98 heads??? (By the way, It's a TPI set up.) But if that's wrong then tell me. I don't mind suggestions, but tell me why you suggest something. I also know I can call up comp cams and get a suggestion. But I'm an electrical engineer and love to come up with my own stuff. I'm someone who wants to know why and take pride or responsibility for what I've chosen. Any info on lobe, exhaust/intake when I need to upgrade my heads, the whole nine. Thanks you all in advance for your input!!!!

Re: Cam schooling appreciated and wanted!!!

It all depends on what your goals are for the car. If you plan on doing heads in the future, they may produce more power than a cam you put in for your current heads. What year is the car/motor? Is it a roller or flat tappet?

Re: Cam schooling appreciated and wanted!!!

My over all goal is just a nice respectable street machine with more torque than horse power in mind. If that makes any sense. I want to smash the pedal and see people in my rear view getting smaller than to reach 160mph. As far as heads, as of right now, if I do anything with or to them it will just be a port/polish.

Please read cam choices thread and look at the Richard part of it.Compression ratios matter before cam choice.
