Which valve springs for LT4 hotcam on 083 heads?
I will be installing an LT4 hotcam into my L98 soon but I've been searching a ton and can't seem to find a proper set of valve springs with the stock 1.25" diameter. I will be running the cam with 1.5rr which is said to be around .492 lift. Don't want to do any machining to the valve pockets or none of that. Im looking at the Scoggin Dickey SD1007 (https://sdparts.com/details/scoggin-dickey-parts-center/ksd1005) includes the springs, retainers, and locks all for $90. Other set im looking at is the Comp Cams 983 kit (http://m.summitracing.com/parts/cca-983-kit). What do you guys think?

You will want to check the clearance between the retainer and valve guide seal to see what you can get away with. Comps 26918 beehive kits are suppose to give more clearance over conventional springs. A shaved down retainer can also help give clearance.
Manley has a 22410 single spring in stock diameter that can work too. With .045" shim underneath and .050 offset locks, you could run near .520" lift or so. But again need to measure to be sure

LS springs w Comp 787 retainers is probably the easiest cheapest guaranteed solution. PAC 1218 http://texas-speed.com/p-4406-pac-ra...e-springs.aspx would be a good choice.

Prolly OK; don't know the specs offhand, so can't compare...

why not use the springs that the smart guys at GM spec'd out for that cam? GM used to sell them as a kit with stock lightweight retainers and keepers for not too much money.

They are 1.32" and may not exactly fit the stock spring pocket

Orr89RocZ is exactly correct, or else i would get those but i dont want to machine the pockets out to fit those in there
Re: Which valve springs for LT4 hotcam on 083 heads?
If you upgrade the retainers (beehive or Scoggin Dickey kit) you need to put a 1/16" shim in the exhaust spring pockets. They are deeper on the exhaust side to make up for the thicker exhaust rotator/retainer these heads used stock. Ditch that for any non-rotator/retainer and you have to shim to get the installed height back up to match the intake side.
