What engine?

Hey everyone. I have a 1988 camaro with a 305 that i would like to get rid of and get a 350 that i can bore out to make it a 390 and cam it out.
Any suggestions?
I would like it to be a turn key 350....preferably new.
and i want to supercharge it.
Does anyone know of any good cams and superchargers?

Thanks guys!

Geez, man, you must be loaded.

If you plan on building it yourself, you might as well just start with a short block.

A good cam company to get you started would be Crane. I highly recommend them. www.cranecams.com

Also, you don't just bore a 350 to get it to a 390; it can't be done; I assume you're talking about stroking it, which you can also buy kits to do so, or buy a block/crank already set up. Boring it to a 390 isn't a good idea, either; if it's a new block, there's really no reason to bore it at all. Boring isn't worth the extra heat and thinner cylinder walls.

As for superchargers, I'm not the guy to give you an answer, I never looked into them.

Or, if you want a "turnkey" 350, http://www.enginefactory.com/

Honestly, if you have the money, I'd look into an LS engine. Any LS engine.

Re: What engine?

You're basically making a 383 but boring it out .060" instead of .030" over to get 390. (389.42).

First of all, you should be starting with an aftermarket block to ensure the cylinder walls are thick enough to handle the extra power you intend to make. Since there's very little OEM parts that you'll be using, why not just get a block with a 400 bore size and stroke it out to a 434?

It takes a lot of money to spec and build anything like that. It can be a lot cheaper to just buy a prebuilt engine already built the way you want it.

Here's one option. Complete, dyno tested and ready to drop in.

Before you start dreaming big, you should start small. Get rid of the 305 and buy a basic 350 or 383 as a replacement. You'll probably be more than happy with just a mild 383 after driving around a 305.

No, its the smart way to go, for the cost going LSx is the most intelligent route, and if he wants to go supercharged, the Iron blocks are preferable even though the aluminum blocks will probably cover what he's going to put down, the LQ gets you the higher flowing setup, even an LQ4 would be a good choice.

At this point, unless you are silly, stubborn, or just plain stupid, staying with a Gen 1 engine doesnt make much sense.
