hoist question
hoist question
1. Any recommendations for the type of engine hoist that I should use?
2. I've seen some pictures where the nose of the car was removed during engine install. Is that necessary?
3. Is it possible to install a 350 engine with a t56 already bolted to it?

Re: hoist question
2. Nope it should work fine if you get one where the boon will go out far enough. Just mark your bracket alignment and remove the hood of course.
3. Maybe, but you'd probably need to get one of those fancy crank style levelers and have the car a long ways off the ground. I just bolted up my 700-r4 after I put the motor in.

Re: hoist question
Some hoists have more reach than others. I would suggest you measure how much reach you need before buying one. Some of the cheaper ones won't reach without removing the nose piece. I bought an old used one off craigslist that has plenty of reach and is nice and heavy. Keeps the back of it from coming up when its loaded down.
My car is an automatic but I've pulled the engine and trans together many times. Its a lot easier if you use an engine pivot plate. Costs a little bit more than the normal load leveler but its easier to use. One of the best tools I've ever bought! I just read on the website they make one for both carb and TPI.

Re: hoist question
I have/recommend an older US made hoist, which will most likely be too short. But, pulling from the side is an option.
