HELP PLEASE, 87 T/A Goodwrench 350 swap

Hello,

I have an 87 T/a that I bought with a carbd 305, and what I do believe is a 700r4 auto trans.

I pulled out the tired clicken and ticken 305 and swapped it out with a Gm goodwrench crate 350.

I added edelbrock performer intake and 1406 carb, summit 80Gph fuel pump,
200 amp bullet summit alt, new harmonic balancer, new flexplate, new throttle bracket from jegs, and just now Hooker shortie Headers.

My problems are as follows,

when removing the manifold from the passenger side I broke the end off the sensor thats towards the firewall side of the head, What sensor is this? and is it a must?

Is the knock sensor the round sensor on the bottom area above the oil pan?

What sensor is on the drivers side head towards the fan side?

I want to get a new 02 sensor, (If I need it, I don't want a computer anymore) will an 87 ta 02 sensor fit the hooker comp shorties or do I need a special one?

What all would I have to do to remove the computer and the 4 tons of wiring that make my engine bay look like a rats nest?

Any help would be AWESOME!!

Thanks guys!

Not a "sensor", it's the fan switch. It's only a "must" if you want your cooling fan to work right.

Is the knock sensor the round sensor on the bottom area above the oil pan?
Yes: it goes in the coolant drain hole.

What sensor is on the drivers side head towards the fan side?
Again, not a "sensor" exactly; it's the sending unit for the temp gauge.

Yup, bolts right in.

Replace the carb and distributor, and make some other provision to work the TCC. Not a cheeeeep solution by any means.

Not sure what difference what it "looks like" makes; but if it really bothers you, some split loom, electrical tape, and itty bitty tie-wraps will help ALOT. Along with, of course, making sure it's all routed correctly, which is usually isn't in such cases; during a swap people seem to find it obligatory to fail to run it where the factory did, and instead spread it all out and lay it all over on top of everything, which isn't good for it over the long run, instead of leaving it neatly down against the engine the way it was. And I suppose, it doesn't "look good" that way either.

Thank you for your help, it's appreciated!

now that the motor is a 5.7 and not a 5.0 do I need to get different switches?

What "vehicle" should I search for to find parts? Will any carbed truck or car work?
Does it have to be listed as carbed for the switches/sensors?

I should get the corvette knock sensor and esc right?

To lose the computer, I would need a different carb than a 1406 edelbrock?
What distb. would I need?

I removed the ac, and smog, and electric antenna, so I have a bunch of junk wires under the hood where those used to be, thats why i want to lose the computer and clean that area up.

Which tcc is recommended?

Thank you again for your help, I LOVE TGO!

Without the ECM, the knock sensor isn't going to do anything.

In my opinion, you're better off with the original q-jet, distributor, ECM, etc. It will operate that crate engine just fine. The Edelbrock will, as stated, require a different distributor, and will not utilize the ECM, O2 sensor, or knock sensor. In my opinion, you are downgrading your system, and spending more money to do it. Just keep the original stuff, and, again as stated, if you don't like the way the wiring looks, just clean it up. Sticking with the original stuff also means you don't need to rig up some way to lock up the TCC.

If you do take these guys advice, the fan switch and temp sending unit will swap over. You need a 350 knock sensor though, a 305 one will not work correctly.

Re: HELP PLEASE, 87 T/A Goodwrench 350 swap

Since it's already installed and bought, I'd like to keep my edelbrock 1406.

What distrib will I have to get for it? I'm using the one that came from my 305 which was carbed too.

I will just clean up and hide my wires so I can maintain keeping the computer.

Will it hurt anything keeping the carb and not running an 02 sensor since you said the carb wont use it? I'm getting exhaust installed soon, need to know.

Thank you again for your help.

You need an vaccum advance HEI summit has one that is inexpensive, also you can put in a toggle swith and lock the converter manually, get a switch that will do it from TCI or put in a nonlocking converter. Or you can leave the computer in there to do it.
