Looking into a L31 possibility

Trying to look into swap possibilities...thought about the goodwrench 350 (too weak) and the ZZ4 (too expensive) so now I'm trying to gather intel for a L69 to L31 swap.

I want 300hp. 300+++ torque. Good drive ability and fun factor without the ZZ4 price. The goal is to stay below $3000. I am considering a new engine so the hassle factor can be reduced.

So I am looking into a L31 truck engine, but possibly modify the cam to LT4 specs and modify the heads with better springs etc... for more lift potential.

I will be using my stock q-jet.

I will be getting a new prom to try to match the engine capability.

I will be using Hooker 2055-1HKR's.

I will be using my Maganflow cat and cat back.

I want my engine to look as stock as possible, I don't want to have to buy a new hood to fit this engine. Will the intake make that an issue ?

Any comments, suggestions, ideas?

Thanks
Chuck

L31 is a Vortec engine.
Do a search on here or Google about them , a million Vortec hot up articles about.

To use Vortec heads you need a special Vortec only intake manifold

I did do a search. Good info out there but I'm trying to find thirdgen specific info from experience.

Looks like a truck engine that is an LT4 cam and beehive springs away from being a very respectable and drive able street motor.

...anybody drop an L31 in an early thirdgen and have issues with the hood or anything else?

Re: Looking into a L31 possibility

Heck, I might just get the engine as is from Jegs for $1900 and just call it good. Worry about the upgrading later. 250hp and 330 tq is already too much for the stock t5 anyway

It is just another SBC , the same dimensions as the other 30+ million engines made since 1955
Only the intake port shape and intake bolt pattern on the heads makes it any different.
