First engine swap need help

Ive read alot of 305 to 350 swap threads but none really answerd my question but Ok well I threw a rod in my 305 in my 91 camro rs so I've decided to drop my nicely modified 350 into it...questions being its from a 79 camaro I'd like to keep it tbi but I don't no if it can handle it? The engine does have 13:1 compression is that a problem for tbi? So I guess the question is what do I need to do to complete it and is 13:1 compression a problem

13:1 is not a problem if you run 120 octane race fuel.

Seriously why does it have 13:1 compression?

11:1 is about the max you should run on the street and it needs to be tuned very well. Most people stick to about 10:1

Re: First engine swap need help

No 79 motor had 13:1 compression.

If it has a CR like that, it's not "a 79 motor"; might have a piece or 2 that was produced in 79, but that's not the same thing.

TBI doesn't care what year the cast iron was cast in. That by itself isn't a problem.

A list of the parts in the motor - specifically the pistons, heads, and cam - would tell pretty quick what this thing really is, and what paths might be available to you. Without that, there's not much we can do for you.

Re: First engine swap need help

Take the heads off it and look at the pistons then measure the cylinder volume and combustion chamber volume.

Re: First engine swap need help

Exactly...

Just telling us what kind of sheet metal it was last wrapped in, doesn't identify a single thing about what's inside.

Let me tell you one thing I've learned in my embarrassingly long time in this hobby: which is, cast iron (or any other kind of metal for that matter) has no memory. It INSTANTANEOUSLY FORGETS ALL ABOUT whatever was wrapped around it within nanoseconds of being removed. After that, all that matters is, what it IS; not what it WAS IN.

Get the head casting numbers. Then pop em off and get a piston part #. Turn the engine to TDC on each cyl and measure how far below the deck each piston is at its TDC (they might be quite a bit different). That'll give you a great start on figuring out what you've got, which you ABSOLUTELY MUST know before you can begin figuring out what to do with it.
