Yes, if will fit you don't mention what intake you are going to use but if mates to a 700r4 you will need a 82-85 flexplate for a two piece rear main seal.

Re: will a 79 camaro 350 fit in a 92 camaro ?

the easiest Would be to go back tbi elongate the inner 4 bolt holes so the intake will fit. you will need a caprice prom for a 350, 61#hr injectors as well. It depends on the camshaft installed in the 350 hopefully it will produce good manifold vacuum. Going to a carb will be more work and alot more expense. There will be a hole missing on the passengers side head for the serpentine bracket to bolt to the head. DO NOT Drill this out

here is a picture of a set of corvette 113 I modified. Where I mounted the stud you will not have that hole. You should use the brace that goes from your serpentine bracket to the intake and the upper left bolt hole. the cast iron heads are too thin to drill and tap you will end up with maybe two threads.

the brace from the back of the serpentine belt bracket to the intake will help support the serpentine bracket. There is a second brace that goes th a stud on the exhaust manifold.

Thats fine, you can use this thread for your swap a swap questions. Others may chime in on there induction opinions I do have a set of the tbi 350 injectors that are in unknown condition and can do reprograming if you need assistance getting it running let me know.
you might read up on how to install a distributor I think that might be your only challenge if you haven't done it before.

Re: will a 79 camaro 350 fit in a 92 camaro ?

Looking at the image it doesn't appear to have the inner 4 bolt holes elongated to be used on old heads. I'm not a fan of tbi so Im really not sure what height restraints there is on a tbi intake on the thirdgen. I honestly am not sure a new intake bang for the buck is worth it . This is a image of a tpi intake you can see how the holes are elongated so it can be used on early or late model heads.

You can do this modification satisfactorily enough if you have an electric drill and 3/8" drill bit.

Or, take the heads off the 350 and use them for bass boat anchors. Your current 305 heads, as lame as they are, are better than those '79 heads. That would solve your intake mount bolt issues, and raise compression a little to help that poor old underpowered engine out.

The dipstick will be on the driver side with the '79 350. Your factory 305 driver side exhaust manifold will get in the way of the dipstick tube. If you use headers (not a bad idea, as the entire LO3 exhaust system is restrictive), that problem will be eliminated.

Personally, I would not do this swap. The best 350 offered in 1979 had 175 HP. Most of them were 165 or 170 HP. Your little old 305 was rated at 170 HP - and it has roller lifters (much less likely to wipe out a cam), and one-piece rear main seal and center bolt valve covers (much less likely to leak). Your 350 block also may not be drilled/tapped for the 153-tooth flexplate starter 3rd gens have. Casting and machining quality were very poor in 1979.

I know you're going to say you want to use this 350 "because I have it". That is the worst reason to consider using an engine in a swap.

350 Vortec motor from a 96-99 (and up to 02 in some vans and such). Get a Vortec carb intake and a adapter to adapt it to TBI. Great (for stock) heads, single piece rear main, center bolt valve covers, roller cam, and better quality control.
