Im looking into getting a crate engine to replace the 305 in my 86 IROC i was looking at the blueprint iron headed 355 or 383. Would these engines work with the cam thats in them or should a cam swap be preformed. (Obviously a tune is needed regarless) these are the cam specs in the engines:

Cam Type: Flat Tappet
.480 Intake .486 Exhaust
229 Intake / 230 Exhaust duration
@ .050
110 degree lobe sep.

 

For computer controlled (EFI ) ,engines generally recommended to have 112 or larger ; factory are 113 - 115.
110 can be used but requires a good tuner who know his sh*t and may take some time to get right

Most on here would recommend you get a engine based on a roller cam block so you can enjoy the benefits that a roller cam has over a flat tappet.

How much yoy loking to spend?
What are your driving aims ; DD , track car , cruiser ?

 

looking for a stout cruiser nothing crazy just a fun car to drive id like to keep the swap around 3000 i see the 355 blueprint engine at 2200 and i figure if i have to swap a cam its no big deal. I mean i might do a HSR while its out idk yet
