86 Z28 Build

So, i have an 86 Z28 with a 305 V8 and T5 manual Tranny. My heads went bad and i was burning oil and coolant. it got to the point where it just started overheating. So now i want to build a 350 Carburated Vortec Motor. Obviously ill need to swap the trans as well. I'm looking for some opinions and advice. I'm not really too keen on specs or prices, but my budget is around $4k. What I'm looking to do is build something that is not for racing but i can use to have fun with every now and then. Thanks Guys!

Free shipping right now. Not "big power", but more than your 305. With cam upgrade (~$500 for cam & valve springs), it'll do 300+ HP easily.

Intake manifold, $200. Carb, $400. "The little stuff", $500. Exhaust (assuming you haven't upgraded anything), ~$1000.

Do you have TPI now, or carb? If you have carb, you can get a Vortec spreadbore intake and use your current carb, distributor, etc. Save a little coin, and it'll run fine.

Your T5 will work for tooling around town. Just no clutch dumps or speed shifting. Your '86 flywheel/clutch will fit the engine above (or equivalent replacement parts).

If you want to upgrade to a LT1 T56, that'll run you about $1500.

Hoping that engine doesn't have standard re-builder's pin height pistons.
