85 Camaro
85 Camaro
My husband and I are doing an engine swap on an 85 Camaro V6. We bought the body with no motor or transmission, and are putting a motor out of a 94 Chevy pickup up in it. It has been converted to a carbureted engine and the transmission is out of a 91 formula Firebird (the 305 motor went bad and the body was trashed). We have looked everywhere for a wiring harness that will run the car barebones but still run the over drive transmission. Can anyone help? We've tried Painless wiring and they have nothing.

The V6 wire harness should do what you need. I did the V6 > V8 swap (only mine was manual) and kept the same harness in the car, just stripped out everything I didn't need. Your other option is to find a car with a V8 and get the harness out of that, but again you'd need to modify it.
Since you're running a carb, are you running the fuel pump in the tank or did you remove that and have a mechanical fuel pump? That will also affect how much of the wire harness you use.

We changed the fuel pump to a mechanical one. The issue we keep running across with the transmission is it is computerized not hydrolic and the v6 harness won't let it shift into overdrive, but at the same time for some reason if we try to run the Firebird v8 harness the windshield wipers won't work.
