For 300 bucks, I'd grab it even if you weren't gonna swap it. I've only swapped in standard small blocks, so I don't know, except that if you do swap you may want to look into an Optispark delete, Like this http://www.delteq.com/.

I would expect it wouldn't be too hard of a swap as it uses the same bell housing (or close enough) and the same motor mounts.

For $300 I would pick it up. I'm happy with my swap, it is a tremendous improvement over the v6 I had. The opti gets a bad wrap for the most part from miss diagnosis, and also from people buying the cheapest garbage replacement part they can find. " I got a flat tire, opti must have went out."

I get that Opti gets bandwagoned, but I'm just thinking of getting rid of a future headache that seems to be prone to occurring.
Just like crossfire injection, "It's garbage and breaks" and I've seen plenty that are fine, but just for the sake of futureproofing it, I'd chuck it.

Just my 2 cents.

That is just it. It isn't a headache. I drive the car year round in rain and snow and have no issues with the opti. According to the guy I got the engine from it is the original unit with 90k+ on it. I have opened it up and it does have the Mitsubishi optical sensor to it's credit. Since the swap I have had 2 spark issues. One ended up being the coil, the other was a bad ground. If you aren't handy with a Voltmeter or have no understanding of electrical systems I can see how it is easy to blame the opti. It is true that the weep hole located directly above the opti wasn't the best idea but a threaded hose barb and a foot of hose takes care of that.

I would tear it down and inspect it before installing it.

I'm not trying to argue, but I also think part of the problem is people expecting a very high mile one to last forever, which it won't. Even a regular distributor goes bad eventually. And because I actually dont really know, besides the benefit of being rid of a possible future issue with opti, how much better is a multiple coil setup?

Again, I'm not trying to bash Opti setups. I've seen good ones, I've seen bad ones. But for me, I'd do the coil conversion just because of how many people have the issues (and yes, some actually don't but just blame it), and because I just think the distribution being on the front is just a bad idea.

Another 2 cents.
