tbi to tpi help
So I picked up a tpi setup: intake manifold, fuel rails, injectors, throttle body, plenum and runners. This was off of an 86 Iroc. So I'm looking at taking my 1992 Camaro RS convertible 305 TBI to a 305 TPI and am wondering what all I would need. I've seen many threads and am not sure what all I will need for the swap. From what I gather I will need ecm, esc, upgraded fuel pump and fuel sending unit, fuel lines, distributor, memcal. Can someone please tell me what else I will need to make this swap. I don't want to swap in a 350 or anything so I'm looking for the some advice for the 305.
I want my speedometer to work so I think I will need a speed density harness?
Thanks for any help.

Hmmm, this presents some issues...
The '86 base has all of the mount bolts to the head at 90 degrees. Your '92 TBI heads & intake have the center two mount bolts at 72 degrees, and the rest at 90 degrees. You may be able to trade your '86 base for an '87-later (non-Vette) base, as there is a bit of a market for the earlier base. Or, you can elongate those bolt holes until you can get the bolts in. Or, since the TBI swirlport heads aren't the greatest, get 416 heads (although it could be argued swirlports are a good match for stock TPI hardware).
The VSS doesn't go directly to the ECM - or, at least, doesn't go to the ECM first. You should be able to isolate that circuit in your current harness and keep it. The SD TPI system doesn't use the buffer box like your TBI does (if I understand correctly), so you may have to bypass it, anyway. I think there are threads about this on the TPI forum (may also be here in the Engine Swap forum - try searching both).
You will need an ECM, although it is possible to just get a SD harness and reprogram your TBI computer. If memory serves, the SD ECM has the ESC built into it.
You will need to upgrade your fuel pump, but not the pickup/fuel level sender. The only fuel lines you'll need are the chassis lines to fuel rail hoses.
Your TBI distributor is the same thing as the SD TPI distributor (same as all '87-up, in fact). If there's nothing wrong with it, keep it. The '86 distributor wouldn't work with an SD harness, anyway (directly, at least - you could change out the connectors).
You'll also need throttle cables, radiator hoses, air cleaner/ducting. If you go SD, you won't need the MAF.

Yes. Edelbrock makes a base (they make it so it fits on either type head). And, there's the Super Ram (hmmm, may not be available anymore) and Stealth Ram intakes available.
It should.
